Section 1 Short Responce

” Be strong or be clever and make peace”

This quote is essential to my understanding because it shows states what a man should be. All men must be strong because if you are not strong you are weak and if you are weak you will be taken advantage of. Strength is more then the power you have in your fists or the power you have politically, but it makes who you are. After hard times and struggle if you are strong you will get through it, but when struggle will take over you. Also to make you a stronger man you must be clever. When you add these two together and put it to the right cause you can create peace.

“Guilt is a Luxury that not everyone can afford”

Guilt is something that can make you self destruct yourself. If you do something to make you guilty you may let it get the best of you and stress to unbelievable limit. For some you cannot allow it or “afford” it. You must not be guilty about things never regret and forgive and forget. It is a hard ask but when you cant afford to have guilt you must get through it.

“There is some hope of reconciliation between races”

To this day it is easy to say that there is still much racism and  tension between some races. But this quote is much referring to whites and blacks. Many over time have pleaded and tried to fight for peace but it is hard for this to occur but i believe there will be reconciliation. Over time much has been improved and still is further improving. Whites and blacks are much like brothers now they forget about the past and help the cause of peace between races.

Bluest Eye Review Questions

1. Some  examples that personify Mr. Mac Teer to winter are ” His skin takes on the pale, cheerless yellow winter sun”.

2. Pecola is harassed by a group of boys when they surround her and call her different things and the most hurtful being black e mo. She begins to feel worse about her self and feels as if she is what thy call her. This is reminiscent to common bullying because everyday bullies tend to harass people and they begin to bring themselves down.

3. Maureen Peal is a richer and more popular girl. Shes the girl that many other girls wanted to be with her long brown hair. She tried to use Pecola by acting as a friend and then changing everything and start asking about her dad.

4. When Claudia and Freida began to compare themselves to Maureen they thought she is all that there not and began to think down on themselves.

5. When meeting the prostitutes the sisters just stayed away and tried to stay away.

6. Geraldine is a mother of one of the boys who bully Pecola. She is weird in a sort because she doesn’t love anything except her cat. Her cat is everything to her.

7. The relationship Geraldine has with her son Juniors is terrible on his part because his cat gets more affection then himself. Yes his mother gives him what he wants but with no emotion. He hates it and takes the anger he holds out on Pecola.

8. Junior bullies Pecola and treats her terrible so he can release his anger, but then changes things and tries to be friends convincing her to come into his house. She also makes Pecola feel worse by yelling at her, but for the wrong reason, all because of Juniors actions. It makes Pecola feeling even worse and leaves her terrible like always.

The Barber Shop

The story of Lawrence Anthony and David Sherly is a story almost has in his life. Everyone has gone through plenty of barber shops and in the different ones you build families and have memories like never before. David and Lawrence grew up to become barbers so they what it feels like, like no other customer especially because they have been doing it for 60 years. It is effective because even though I’m at a young age it gives me memories of my barber shop. My reaction is also surprising because when he was only 18 he took his younger brother to get his haircut but his neighbor says you cut his hair and he does and it comes out better then a regular barber I chose this story because it shows the many memories i have and will have.

“What does it mean to enter into a bond with someone?”

To bond with another is many different things to many different people and in my head to bond might not be like others. My meaning of bonding with another is when you are comfortable and are enjoying your time with them and feel that at first they are someone you can trust. To bond with another is to have have a heart for them that if they are hurt you are hurt. Its when you will do what you can for them a bond is something that shows a true friendship or relationship. A bond is what all people want so there is someone there for them.

Something that binds, fastens, confines, or holds together, is the exact definition and that can relate to many things like people or belongings. A item can also represent a bond as a symbol of what something means to another.

Oates “Lady With The Pet Dog” 5 questions

1.I like Chekhov’s version better than the Oates version. Because its more of something i can relate to and the point of veiw alot better.I believe its a better show of there personality.

4.Anna is unhappy because going against her beliefs and having a affair. She was very unhappy with her husband and another man was running through her mind but she had guilt on her conscious. She let her self down and felt like dirt she felt the feeling of committing a crime in marriage.

6. This story made the narration convincing because it showed the difference of a man and women’s emotions and the difference in there feelings.Where a man wouldn’t show as much but a women does.

“What triumph, to love like this in any room, anywhere, risking even the craziest of accidents!”

7. I think that by this Anna meant that compared to her relationship with her husband, this relationship with Gurov was true love and was worth even though they were going against what was right and wrong and and the belief of ones love for another.

“Everything is repeating itself everything is stuck”

8. I think that by ordering the events in the story the author was showing how everything was tending to repeat itself.

Chekhovs Answer to 5 questions “Lady With The Pet Dog”

1.The setting of the story  “The Lady with the Pet Dog” is very significant  because both Anna and Gurov are away from their husband/wife and are on vacation. This is a chance for the both of them to be free  and away from everything. The vacation  effects there actions since they are both on vacation and  are not interfered by another,  they are  ready to try and do new things.  they were both in an unhappy marriage and ready to just get away and live. They  could say and pretend to be who or whatever they want to be.
2.  Gurov’s view about woman reveals that he is  not a true man he is unfaithful and doesn’t follow the rule treat someone the way u want to be treated. He shows that he does not believe in a true devoted relationship he doesn’t believe of happiness when it comes to women.Love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person but that does not exist in the mind of Gurov .Gurov says woman are “inferior race” because the way he is treated by his wife and probably past relationships. He believes all women are similar or the same and that’s whats holding him back from finding love.
3.  To me the antagonist is Gurov because he it is hard for him  to find love. The  conflict in the situation is how he changes his mind and how  fast he fell for Anna out of all  woman.  I think it shows a surprising change in Gurov and a surprise no one expected because of his resentment towards women.
4.  Knowing the characteristic of Anna and Gurov i believe they would both now do what ever they choose just to be with each other they have both finally find there real love. Meaning they will do what ever they can for the other and I’m guessing they will both like to be with each other forever. If it means leaving there fake loved ones then they will do it.
5. My view of this assessment is that in life there will be someone you find who you can truthfully say you love and care for enough to never pull a stunt as Gurov and Anna did. Yes do what makes you happy but i think this predicament is just unacceptable and not the right thing to do. I also believe the story is unreal for that to ever happen is very unlikely. Yes many cheat but the man he was and the feeling they both had towards there husband and wife is not likely.
